Dear Friends of Radiant Futures,
As many of you are already aware, we are currently seeing a growing wave of homelessness across our county mainly due to lack of affordable housing options available in our community. According to the 2018 Point-In-Time Survey, there were at least 4,955 individuals experiencing homelessness on any given night – almost a 5% increase from a year ago. We are happy to support and learn of updates from our local government and homeless service providers with their aggressive approach to help address this situation.
However, did you know that at least 34% of the homeless population reported having experienced some form of domestic violence and at least 5% reported domestic violence as the immediate reason they were experiencing homelessness? Radiant Futures has a unique role in providing a solution to this community issue as we have first-hand knowledge of the intersection between domestic violence and homelessness. Understanding this connection is essential in order to provide the best support for people fleeing from abuse and trauma.
Since 1976, Radiant Futures has transformed the lives of thousands of survivors and their children by providing safe emergency and transitional housing with supportive services such as food, counseling, and legal services. As we head into a new decade, Radiant Futures is taking a giant leap forward that will enable us to address the growing need for more stable housing, specifically for those affected by domestic violence and human trafficking. We will soon formally announce a plan to increase our housing capacity and launch our capital campaign to raise the funds needed for a transformative renovation project for one of our properties. Stay tuned to learn how you can get involved with Radiant Futures and our expanded vision to become part of the long-term solution for the homeless population in Orange County.
