In the dead of night, Mariana was startled by a knock on her door. Standing before her was a police officer responding to a domestic disturbance call. Despite her apprehension, Mariana assured the officer that everything was fine, attributing the disturbance to the television. As the officer departed, he left her with a pamphlet containing resources for assistance. With her boyfriend’s frequent outbursts becoming a daily occurrence, Mariana found herself reviewing the pamphlet that night, contemplating whether it could provide support for herself and her two daughters.
Out of concern for herself and her children, Mariana called our 24-hour helpline, looking for a way out. She needed a place to stay, legal help, and help accessing the services that would provide for her family. Upon connecting with Radiant Futures, she was paired with a case manager who provided support throughout her entire journey.
During her emergency stay, Mariana was able to focus on prioritizing her and her family’s physical and emotional safety. She worked with legal services to obtain a restraining order and began therapy services through our clinical department. Mariana was able to establish a housing plan during her emergency stay but needed additional time to finalize herlegal matters. To provide Mariana with that extra support and minimize the stressors she was facing, she was provided with the opportunity to apply for our Transitional Housing program. During her stay, Mariana became even more engaged in the programs offered at Radiant Futures. She started attending more groups, including our Personal Empowerment Program. Over time, she gained more confidence in her ability to advocate for her and her children’s needs and accessed additional supportive services for her children at school, ensuring that they received regular tutoring services.
Thanks to Mariana’s time in the Transitional Housing program, she and her children could start thinking about their future. As time progressed, she got her legal matters in order, which allowed Mariana to move into a safe and stable living environment with her family. Now that Mariana and her two children live with her family, she has been able to enroll her children in school, and she has found stable employment with her family’s support. Mariana shared “I couldn’t have done it without the support and [Radiant Futures] being with me through all the struggles to get to where I am today.”
