June is a month of celebration, reflection, and visibility. As we honor Pride Month and the many forms love and family take, we are also marking something deeply meaningful for our organization: 50 years of Radiant Futures.
What does a family look like today? The honest answer is it looks like all of us. Families are built by married and unmarried partners, blended households, co-parents, same-sex couples, and individuals across the full spectrum of gender identity and sexual orientation. The shape of a family may look different from one household to the next, but the need for safety, stability, and dignity is something every family shares.
At Radiant Futures, we believe every survivor deserves support, no matter what their family looks like. Our legal advocacy team walks alongside survivors through some of the most difficult moments of their lives, including Domestic Violence Temporary Restraining Order hearings, custody paperwork, and court processes that can feel overwhelming without a trusted guide. We help people understand their rights and their options, and we make sure no one has to face that path alone.
California’s legal system continues to evolve toward greater inclusion, with family court forms now reflecting more neutral and inclusive language and broader gender recognition. Progress is real, even when it is slow. And while barriers still exist, survivors across every identity and orientation have access to legal protections and the right to be heard.
For 50 years, Radiant Futures has shown up for those who have been silenced, isolated, or told their family did not count. We have helped survivors find their footing, access their rights, and build lives rooted in safety and possibility.
This Pride Month, we celebrate every survivor who has trusted us with their story. We celebrate every family that found its way forward. And we commit the work still ahead.
