Housing and rental prices are a key concern for all Californians. As of May 2024, renting an apartment in Fullerton typically costs around $2,055 for a one-bedroom apartment, and approximately $2,546 for a two-bedroom apartment. While not the priciest among neighboring Orange County cities, these prices are still 35% higher than the national average.
High rental prices add additional stress for our survivors who are ready to leave our shelter and find a place of their own. Many are starting new jobs, might not have savings, or recommendation from their previous landlord. Our Housing Program works hard to set our survivors up for success, helping them to create budgets and working with the community to help find permanent housing.
One way we work with the community is through our Key Housing Program. One component of this program collaborates with homeowners who have vacant rooms in their homes, renting them out to our survivors. This program offers retired or empty-nester homeowners a fantastic opportunity to generate extra income while enjoying the added benefits of social connection within their homes.
The Key Housing Program staff will take you through the process of becoming a landlord, the support and training we can provide, and the roles and expectation of landlords and Radiant Futures. Ensuring survivors have a safe place to live that fits within their budget removes any fear or anxiety around housing and helps support their recovery.
Want to make a difference? If you have empty rooms and think you may be interested in renting out your space, please contact the Key Housing Program at (714) 992.1939 x116.
