Jordan carried two kinds of pain when she first came to Radiant Futures. As a child, she witnessed domestic violence in her own home. As an adult, she survived being trafficked by someone she once trusted. She had escaped the person who hurt her, but she had not yet escaped what that experience left behind. 

“I didn’t feel like I had broken the chains yet,” Jordan remembers. “I was still in it, even after I was out.” 

For months, she kept to herself. She avoided people, crowds, and anything that made her feel too visible. What she wanted most was simple: to rebuild a life for herself and her children. 

Jordan first contacted Radiant Futures seeking support with her reunification case plan, the court-mandated steps she needed to complete to regain custody of her children. As she connected with our team, she found far more than she expected. Alongside legal advocacy related to her trafficking case, Jordan entered safe housing at Radiant Futures. She enrolled in our Personal Empowerment Program (PEP) and soon discovered our Parenting Program as well. 

“I was so happy to find out about Parenting too,” she said. “It wasn’t just going to help my case. It was going to help me actually be ready when reunification came.” 

Safety planning was woven throughout her journey, from identifying trusted supports and understanding her legal options to gradually building the confidence to reengage with the world around her. It was not a single plan handed to her. It was something she built, session by session, on her own terms. 

And slowly, she began to blossom. 

By the end of her parenting classes, Jordan spoke with a confidence that surprised even herself. 

“I feel excited about being a parent again,” she said. “Not scared. Excited.” 

She described how PEP, together with the safety and stability she found while staying at Radiant Futures, helped her rebuild a sense of self-worth she had not felt in years. 

“I don’t feel like I have to hide in public anymore,” Jordan said. “I can take up space again.” 

Today, Jordan continues her reunification journey with confidence and hope. Equipped with new skills, a stronger support system, and renewed belief in herself, she is building a safe and stable future for herself and her children.
