When Anahi’s mother was seriously injured in an act of domestic violence, her world shifted. Anahi, a U.S. citizen, had grown up watching her mother work hard, cleaning homes, providing for the family, and doing it all without legal status. After her abuser was arrested, Anahi’s mom was left not only to heal physically and emotionally but also to navigate threats from a customer who warned her, “I’ll call ICE and have you deported.”
Terrified, Anahi’s mom left the job in tears. Anahi reached out to Radiant Futures, where a Legal Advocate met with them the next day. The advocate listened with care and helped them understand the rights her mother still has, even without legal immigration status.
At Radiant Futures, we understand how fear, misinformation, and uncertainty can overwhelm survivors especially those who are undocumented. Many have been told they don’t have options. The truth is more hopeful: survivors do have rights, and we’re here to walk with them every step of the way.
Our legal services offer more than just advice. We work one-on-one with immigrant survivors to create personalized safety plans, explain the right to remain silent, and offer guidance on how to interact with law enforcement. In Anahi’s mom’s case, we also discussed legal remedies like the U Visa, a form of protection for undocumented survivors who have suffered significant harm from a crime like domestic violence and are willing to assist in the prosecution of that crime.
Not everyone will qualify, and there are often challenges in the process. But every survivor deserves to know their options, and to be met with honesty, compassion, and support.
If you or someone you know is unsure about their immigration rights or seeking safety from abuse, Radiant Futures is here to help. Call our 24/7 bilingual Helpline at 877-531-5522. You are not alone, and you do have options.
