Expanding Our Human Trafficking Prevention

2019 was a year of expansion for the Human Trafficking Program at Radiant Futures. This past year we developed a new process that has helped streamline the way we provide services to survivors of human trafficking. Our staff continued to increase their knowledgebase with specialized trainings on the different aspects of working with human trafficking survivors.

We formed stronger partnerships in our community and due to our outreach efforts, facilitated presentations and trainings to schools, teachers, social workers and community resource centers on human trafficking and the signs of exploitation.

In May, Radiant Futures participated in Found in Fullerton, an event that provided awareness about human trafficking in the city of Fullerton. This event sparked the interest of the community in fighting against human trafficking and helping those affected by this crime. Following this event, the Fullerton Human Trafficking Partnership was established, and Radiant Futures was able to be instrumental in establishing this new collaboration. The partnership works together with other local agencies to educate our community in recognizing human trafficking and connecting those who have been exploited to resources.

In October, Radiant Futures was recognized by the United Nations Association Orange County Chapter with the Award of Hope. We were honored to receive this award and grateful for the opportunity to provide survivors of human trafficking stability and tools to empower their lives while inspiring hope for future healing.

In 2020, Radiant Futures looks forward to continued collaboration with our partners and plans to extend our reach, providing services and promoting prevention efforts throughout Orange County. January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. In addition to providing trauma-informed and survivor-driven services, our theme for this year is “Shining the Light on Human Trafficking.”

In January, the City of Fullerton will present a proclamation to Radiant Futures and the Partnership recognizing the month as National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. Our goal is to move beyond education and awareness and towards engaging all individuals in identifying and preventing human trafficking in our community. This January, show your support by wearing a blue ribbon and by joining us in our community events to learn about Radiant Futures’s services and how you can get involved.
